The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Artificial Intelligence (EMAI) Scholarship is a prestigious opportunity for outstanding international students to study advanced AI concepts at multiple top-tier European universities. The Erasmus Mundus EMAI Scholarship Programme is a two-year (120 ECTS) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree that provides a comprehensive framework of theory and practice in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Programme, based in four European research universities, will give the students the foundational knowledge needed to explore both key contextual areas and complex technical applications of AI systems.

The consortium also includes the prestigious UCL Centre for Artificial Intelligence, global AI research centers, and 12 industrial partners ranging from multinational companies to small and medium-sized enterprises. Erasmus Mundus EMAI Scholarship is a fully funded program that covers tuition, living expenses, and travel costs for two years, fostering diverse academic and cultural experiences.   • Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona,
  • Sapienza University of Rome in Rome (Italy),
  • Radboud University in Nijmegen (The Netherlands), and
  • University of Ljubljana in Ljubljana (Slovenia)

Programs Offered: Joint Master in Artificial Intelligence (EMAI).
Program Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

The program is based on nationally accredited degrees offered by the partner universities:

  • UPF: Master in Intelligent and Interactive Systems
  • Sapienza: Master in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and Master in Engineering in Computer Science
  • RU: Master in Computing Science
  • UL: Master in Computer and Information Science

EMAI aims to award a joint degree from the four partner universities. If joint accreditation is not finalized, students will receive double or multiple degrees, following the rules and regulations of each university.

  • The EMAI scholarship program will grant 15 students full Erasmus Mundus Scholarships (EMS) for two years and another 15 students will be granted full tuition fee waivers only. 
  • The EMS will cover the program tuition fees
  • a monthly non-taxable stipend of €1400 for the full length of the programme (24 months)
  • The monthly stipend will help to cover travel, installation, and subsistence costs.
  • If you don’t receive an EMS, they may offer you a Full Fee Waiver, which covers your tuition fees for both years of study.
  • The tuition fee is €9,000/year which is covered by EMAI
  • Costs for personal activities, leisure, or vacations.
  • Additional academic materials beyond the provided resources.

Candidates must meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • Complete a first-cycle study program with at least 180 ECTS in information or communication technologies, engineering, physics, mathematics, or statistics.
  • Complete a first-cycle study program with at least 180 ECTS in other fields, provided they fulfill essential study requirements for further studies before enrollment.
  • Complete a first-cycle study program with at least 180 ECTS in other fields and meet specific requirements (10 to 60 ECTS) in relevant areas like ICT, engineering, physics, mathematics, or statistics, as determined by the EMAI Academic Program Committee.

The EMAI Academic Programme Committee requires candidates to have completed:

  • At least 12 ECTS credits in mathematics courses, covering topics like calculus, linear algebra, logic, discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, graph theory, or related fields.
  • At least 12 ECTS credits in programming courses, including programming paradigms, algorithms, and data structures.
  • At least 12 ECTS credits in computing science or computer engineering courses, such as cryptography, computer networks, security, or theoretical computer science.

Others

  • Candidates submitting English language certificates must meet all the necessary scores at the time of the application.
  • TOEFL iBT: At least 90, with subscores of 22 or higher. The Home Edition is not accepted.
  • IELTS Academic: Achieve an overall score of 6.5 or higher, with all subscores at least 6.5, and meet the CEFR C1 level.
  • Cambridge certificate
  • C1 Advanced: Overall minimum score 176, minimum component score 169, minimum writing component score 176
  • C2 Proficiency: Overall minimum score 180, minimum component score 169, minimum writing component score 176
  • Identity Card or Passport
  • Official university bachelor’s or master’s degree from the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) or equivalent foreign degree allowing access to a postgraduate degree in the country that issued the degree.
  • Academic Transcript of Records. This transcript must contain all the courses taken during the entire bachelor’s or master’s degree at the university of origin.
  • letter of motivation in English: (600 to 800 words).
  • A one-minute video (Introducing yourself, explaining your background, and how you will contribute to the EMAI program. To submit this requirement, attach a Word/PDF file with a link to your video, which should be posted on YouTube,  Drive, Vimeo, or any other platform that allows viewing. The video must not exceed 30 Mb).
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • The EMAI Student Supplement Questionnaire (NEW, for the 2025-2027 cohort).
  • English certificate 
  • Professional experience in any of the fields related to the EMAI.
  • Research experience.
  • Additional academic training in areas related to the EMAI.
