Internet Society Peering Fellowship 2025

The Internet Society Peering Fellowship 2025 is a fully funded, designed to empower professionals from Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America & the Caribbean. It is a six-month program that supports 15 professionals working to make Internet access more affordable, reliable, and resilient. It focuses on building skills in peering, interconnection, and policy advocacy to improve local Internet infrastructure.

Through virtual training and participation in a regional peering event, fellows gain the tools and knowledge needed to tackle interconnection challenges and contribute to a stronger Internet ecosystem. The Internet Society Peering Fellowship focuses on enhancing skills for affordable and resilient Internet access. Applications are open until May 2, 2025. ​

  • Lagos, Nigeria will host AfPIF from 19 to 21 August 2025.
  • San Salvador, El Salvador will host LACNOG from 6 to 10 October 2025.
  • Manila, Philippines will host Peering Asia from 4 to 6 November 2025.

  • Network operations and DNS configuration
  • Policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement
  • Grant writing and project implementation​
  • Round-trip airfare to the selected peering event.
  • Hotel stay for the duration of the event.
  • Fixed stipend for additional expenses.
  • Visa costs are not covered. Travel dates are fixed to match the event schedule.
  • Personal materials and technological devices required for participation​
  • Participate in virtual training sessions and collaborative online forums.
  • Attend one in-person peering event for hands-on networking and learning.
  • Receive technical and advocacy training in routing, IXPs, and Internet policy.
  • Engage with industry professionals to build meaningful connections.
  • Work on local projects that improve Internet interconnection and peering in your country or region.
  • Must be based or living in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Africa, or the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
  • Must have a valid passport:
    • LAC: valid until April 2026
    • Africa: valid until February 2026
    • APAC: valid until June 2026
  • Must be able to attend one of the following events:
    • AfPIF (19–21 August 2025)
    • LACNOG (6–10 October 2025)
    • Peering Asia (4–6 November 2025)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Internet industry.
  • Committed to fully participating in the six-month fellowship.
  • Available for virtual sessions between 11:00–15:00 UTC.
  • Must have reliable broadband Internet access and appropriate devices.
  • Working proficiency in both verbal and written English.
  • Approximately four hours per week are required for participation.
  • Applicants from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States are strongly encouraged to apply.

  1. Complete and submit the online application form by May 2, 2025.
  2. Applications will be reviewed between May 5 – 31, 2025.
  3. Final selections and notifications will occur in June 2025.
  4. The fellowship program will run from June to November 2025.
  • Only applicants who submit the online form will be reviewed.
  • Applications undergo two stages of evaluation by independent review committees.
  • Reviewers do not have access to personal identifiers (e.g., name, gender, contact info).
  • All applicants will be notified about the status of their application after the review.
  • Clearly articulate your experience and interest in Internet interconnection and peering.
  • Highlight any relevant projects or initiatives you’ve been part of.
  • Ensure your statement of purpose aligns with the fellowship’s objectives.
  • Double-check all documents for accuracy and completeness before submission
  • Accommodation: $300–$700 depending on region and housing type
  • Food and groceries: $150–$300
  • Local transportation: $30–$100
  • Communication (Internet/phone): $20–$50
  • Personal expenses and incidentals: $50–$100

Q1: How many fellows will be selected?
A total of 15 fellows will be chosen for the 2025 cohort.

Q2: Can I attend all three regional peering events?
The fellowship covers attendance for only one event. However, you’re welcome to attend others at your own expense.

Q3: Is there a participation fee?
No, the program is fully funded, covering training and event participation. ​

Q4: Will I receive a certificate after completion?
Yes, all fellows will receive a Certificate of Completion. ​

Q5: Does the fellowship cover visa expenses?
No, visa-related costs are the responsibility of the participant
