The University of Twente Scholarship(UTS) 2025 offers financial support to outstanding international students pursuing a degree in the Netherlands. The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a merit-based award for outstanding students from non-EU/EEA countries applying for a master’s (MSc) program at the University of Twente. Recipients may also have the opportunity to join one of three honours tracks: Research, Design, or Change Leaders.

The University of Twente Scholarship(UTS) provides grants ranging from €3,000 to €22,000 for one year, with the possibility of extension for two-year programs. It provides financial support to help cover study-related costs, but students are free to decide how to use the funds, as it does not cover tuition fees or other expenses directly. The application deadline is 1 May 2025 (Round 2) .​

    • Complete at least 50% of European Credits by that time.

To be eligible for the UTS 2025, applicants must:

  • Apply for a UT Master’s programme first and get a (provisional) admission letter.
  • Must have a UT student number.
  • Cannot have graduated from any UT (under)graduate programme.
  • Must meet visa eligibility (if applicable).
  • Must meet English language requirements:
    • IELTS 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in speaking), or
    • TOEFL iBT 90 (minimum 20 in speaking).
  • Must not be eligible for a Dutch study loan.
  • Must belong to the top 5–10% of your class academically.
  • UTS is not available for:
    • Dutch students
    • Current UT students
    • EU/EEA students
    • ITC faculty programmes
    • Pre-Master programmes

Applicants need to submit:

  • A valid passport or national ID
  • Academic transcripts and degree certificates
  • Proof of English language proficiency

  1. Apply for Admission: Submit an application for a master’s program at the University of Twente and receive (provisional) admission.
  2. Apply for the Scholarship: After obtaining admission, apply separately for the UTS through the university’s online application system.
  3. Await Results: Scholarship results are typically announced within 8 weeks after the application deadline.​

Q1: Can I apply for the UTS if I haven’t received admission yet?

No, you must first obtain (provisional) admission to a qualifying master’s program at the University of Twente before applying for the scholarship.

Q2: Is the scholarship renewable for the second year of a two-year program?

Yes, the scholarship can be extended for the second year if you meet specific academic criteria, including achieving an average grade of 7 (out of 10) and earning at least 50% of European Credits by the end of the third quartile of the first year.​

Q3: Does the scholarship cover tuition fees?

The scholarship provides a financial grant to support study-related expenses, but it does not automatically cover tuition fees. You are responsible for paying tuition fees separately.​

Q4: Are there additional scholarships I can apply for?

Yes, recipients of the UTS may also be eligible for additional scholarships such as the Kipaji Scholarship, which offers up to €12,000 for students from developing countries
