The Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission invites applications for the 2026-2027 Fulbright Student Award. Eligible candidates include Romanian graduates (BA, MA, or PhD students) and final-year BA students from accredited universities.

The Fulbright Romania Student Award covers international travel, tuition and fees within budget limits, a monthly stipend for living expenses, a books and supplies allowance, and health benefits. Master’s students may receive second-year funding based on available resources and academic performance. This prestigious program fosters academic excellence and cross-cultural exchange. The scholarship does not cover expenses such as:​

  • Dependents: Financial support for spouses or children is not provided.​
  • Supplementary Activities: Costs related to extracurricular activities or personal travel are excluded.​
  • Must be a Romanian citizen (green card holders and dual U.S.-Romanian citizens are ineligible).
  • Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree (final-year BA students can apply).
  • Must have English proficiency.
  • Law applicants must hold a degree in law.
  • Those currently residing in the U.S. or who have lived there for five or more years in the past six years.
  • Recent graduates of a U.S. academic institution.
  • Students already in the U.S. at the time of application.
  • Must be responsible citizens who can promote cultural exchange between Romania and the U.S.
  • Should be willing to share knowledge and research results upon returning to Romania.
  • Must show motivation and adaptability to life in the U.S.
  • Pre-screening: Initial review of applications.
  • Project assessment: Evaluated by Fulbright alumni and Romanian/U.S. scholars.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a bi-national selection committee in September 2025.
