Kyoto Retreat Program 2025 in Japan

The Kyoto Retreat Program 2025 offers artists, curators, and writers a chance to spend four weeks in Japan, from October 16 to November 13, for cultural exploration and creative reflection. While some events will be scheduled, the retreat is designed to give participants time and space to experience Japanese culture, connect with fellow creatives, and find inspiration without the pressure to produce new work. The focus is on personal growth in a calm, supportive environment.

Kyoto Retreat Program welcomes visual artists, curators, and writers over 21 from anywhere in the world to engage in research, reflection, and inspiration amid Kyoto’s rich cultural landscape. All program costs are covered. Applications close on July 15, 2025

  • Private bedroom in a shared house for 4 weeks
  • USD 800 for meals and local transport
  • No meals provided beyond stipend
  • No additional travel within Japan
  • No dependents or pets allowed (except approved service animals)
  • Open to visual artists, curators, and writers
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Open to all nationalities, genders, cultures, and religions

Q4: Will I be notified if I’m not selected?
A: Only successful applicants are notified by August 15, 2025
