The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships at the University of Toronto provide an unparalleled opportunity for outstanding international students to study at one of the world’s best universities in one of the world’s most multicultural cities. The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship recognizes outstanding international students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, creativity, and leadership potential. It aims to offer opportunities to students who positively impact their community and have shown a dedication to learning.

Awarded annually, the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships recognize outstanding students from around the world, including international students studying at Canadian high schools. This is U of T’s most prestigious and competitive scholarship for international students. The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships will cover tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years. The scholarship is tenable only at the University of Toronto for first-entry, undergraduate programs. Each year approximately 37 students will be named Lester B. Pearson Scholars.

  • Strong academic record with leadership qualities
  • Nominated by their high school (each school can nominate only one student)
  • Must begin their studies at the University of Toronto in the following academic year
  • The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT and other AI applications, is prohibited when creating content for any University of Toronto undergraduate award application.  
  • Please note the Scholarship Program at the University of Toronto does not interact with agencies or educational “agents” to recruit students or offer scholarships
  • Official high school transcripts
  • Proof of nomination from the high school
  • Personal statement or essay
  • Letters of recommendation (from teachers or school officials)
  • Completed application form through the University of Toronto portal
  • English language proficiency test scores (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL)
  1. Nomination by your high school (ensure your school is participating).
  2. Apply to the University of Toronto through their undergraduate admissions portal.
  3. Complete the Scholarship application form (sent to eligible candidates).
  4. Submit all required documents by the deadline.
  • Nomination Deadline: Mid-November
  • Scholarship Application Deadline: Early January
  • Start early: Work with your school to secure a nomination in time.
  • Showcase leadership: Highlight leadership roles in school or community activities.
  • Write a compelling essay: Reflect on your motivations, creativity, and ambitions.
  • Select strong recommenders: Ensure teachers or officials can speak to both your academic and extracurricular strengths.
  • Proofread everything: Avoid mistakes in documents to make a professional impression.
  • Submit all necessary documentation online by November 8, 2024.
  • Accommodation: CAD 1,200 – 1,800
  • Food and groceries: CAD 300 – 500
  • Transportation: CAD 150 (public transit)
  • Books and supplies: CAD 100 – 200
