Mauritius Government Scholarships 2025 in Mauritius

The Mauritius Government is offering the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme 2025 for students from the African Union or the African Commonwealth countries. The Mauritius Government Scholarships designed to pursue full-time on-campus undergraduate and postgraduate programs at public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Mauritius.

The Mauritius Government Scholarships covers tuition fees, provides a monthly living allowance, and includes airfare to and from Mauritius. The application deadline for electronic submission is April 23, 2025, and for hard copy submission is April 30, 2025. ​

The scholarship encompasses various fields, including but not limited to:​

  • Tuition Fees: The scholarship covers the full tuition fees.
  • Living Expenses: It contributes to the cost of living while studying in Mauritius.
  • Airfare: It covers return airfare by the most economical route.
    • Departure: From the student’s home country to Mauritius at the start of studies.
    • Return: Back to the student’s home country upon completion of studies.
  • Accommodation support
  • Cultural exposure and quality education
  • Costs related to visa applications.​

  • Expenses for books, study materials, and personal items.​
  • Age Criteria:
    • Undergraduate programs: Applicants must be 18 or older and under 26 by January 1, 2026.
    • MPhil, MPhil/PhD, and PhD programs: Applicants must be under 40 by January 1, 2026.
  • Admission requirement: Applicants must have already applied for a full-time, on-campus program (Diploma, Degree, MPhil, or PhD) at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius for the 2024 academic year.
  • MPhil/PhD: Requires a master’s degree, ideally with an upper second-class undergraduate degree (or GPA > 60%).
  • Program: Must have 5 SCE, GCE “O” Level, or IGCSE credits, including English, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Requires at least 21 GCE or HSC A-Level points and a 60% or higher average.

  1. Apply to a Public HEI in Mauritius: Secure admission into a full-time on-campus program
  2. Obtain the Scholarship Application Form: Download from the official website.​
  3. Complete the Application: Fill in the form electronically before printing.​
  4. Submit Through Nominating Agency: Forward the completed application and supporting documents to the Nominating Agency in your country.​
  5. Agency Submission: The Nominating Agency will endorse and submit applications to the Mauritian Ministry of Education.​

While the scholarship provides a living allowance, students should budget for additional expenses such as:​

  • Accommodation: Varies depending on whether you live on-campus or off-campus (around MUR 4,000–15,000).
  • Food: Estimated at MUR 3,000–5,000 per month for groceries and eating out.
  • Transportation: Public transport costs around MUR 1,000–2,000 monthly.
  • Utilities: MUR 1,500–3,000 for electricity, water, and internet services.
  • Personal Expenses: MUR 2,000–4,000 for clothing, entertainment, and miscellaneous items.

    • No, these costs are not covered. You will need to manage them on your own.
