Schwarzman Scholars Programme 2026-27 in China

The Schwarzman Scholars Programme 2026–27 is a prestigious, fully-funded one-year Master’s program in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University, Beijing. Each year, Schwarzman Scholars selects a group of exceptional individuals from around the world who show strong leadership, academic excellence, and a desire to build understanding between China and the global community.

Schwarzman Scholars Programme aims to develop future global leaders by deepening their understanding of China’s role in global trends. Successful candidates are eager to learn from different cultures and perspectives while demonstrating outstanding leadership and a clear commitment to their field. Applications for international applicants open in April 2025 and close in September 2025. ​

For Chinese Citizens: May 20, 2025.

While the scholarship is comprehensive, personal expenses beyond the provided stipend and any additional travel not related to the program may not be covered.​

  • Undergraduate Degree:
    Must have a bachelor’s degree by August 1, 2026. All majors are accepted.
  • Age Requirement:
    Must be between 18 and 28 years old as of August 1, 2026.
  • English Proficiency:
    Required if English is not your native language or primary language of study for at least two years.
    Acceptable tests and minimum scores:
    • TOEFL: 100
    • IELTS: 7
    • Cambridge (C1/C2): 185
    • Duolingo: 130

    • Submit a current version (maximum 2 pages).
  • Essays
    • Leadership Essay (750 words)
    • Statement of Purpose (500 words)
    • These highlight your leadership potential and writing skills.
  • Transcripts
    • Upload official transcripts from all degree-granting post-secondary institutions.
  • Letters of Recommendation
    • Submit 3 letters from individuals who know you well and can discuss your leadership and academic strengths with examples.
  • Video Introduction
    • A 1-minute self-introduction showing your personality and interests.
  1. Prepare and gather all required documents.
  2. Online Application
    • Complete and submit the form in English. You can save and return to it as needed.
  3. Extra materials (e.g., portfolios) will not be reviewed.
  4. Submit the application between April and September 2025.
  5. Application Review & Interview
    • Applications are reviewed by global leaders.
    • Selected candidates are invited to interviews in late October/early November.
  6. Final selections will be announced thereafter

Q1: Can I apply if I haven’t completed my undergraduate degree yet?
Yes, as long as you will complete all degree requirements by August 1, 2026

Q2: Is there an application fee?
No, there is no application fee for the Schwarzman Scholars Programme.​

Q3: Do I need to know Chinese?
No, the program is conducted in English, and Chinese language instruction is provided during the program.​

Q4: Are interviews conducted in person or online?
Interviews are typically conducted in person, with travel and accommodation expenses covered by the program.

Q5: Can I defer my admission if selected?
Deferrals are not typically granted; applicants are encouraged to apply for the year they intend to enroll.​
