The TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship 2025 offers international students the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in Turkey. TÜBİTAK and TWAS have created a sandwich fellowship program for scholars from developing countries. This program allows them to conduct part of their PhD research in natural and applied sciences at public and private universities in Turkey, as well as TÜBİTAK Research Centers and Institutes. The TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship typically covers a period of 6 to 12 months, during which fellows can engage in their research activities

In addition, the TWAS-TUBITAK Postgraduate Fellowship offers financial support to cover living expenses, accommodation, and health insurance, round-trip airfare during the research fellowship period. To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in natural or related applied sciences.
  • The maximum age for applicants is 35 years as of December 31 of the application year.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD program in their home or another developing country in natural or related applied sciences.
  • They must have passed the PhD qualifying exam or be at an advanced stage of research.
  • They must provide a Registration & No Objection Certificate (dated within three months of application) confirming program details and research plans.Applicants must be nationals and permanent residents of a developing country in the South (list available at TWAS website).
  • Women and candidates from Science and Technology Lagging Countries (STLC) are highly encouraged to apply (STLC list).
  • Developing countries not listed are also eligible.
  • Applicants cannot hold temporary or permanent residency visas in Türkiye or any developed country.
  • Those already residing in Türkiye are not eligible for the TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship.
  • Applicants need an official Acceptance Letter from a Turkish university department, research center, or TÜBİTAK institute.
  • This letter must be signed by the institution’s highest authority (e.g., rector or director).Each applicant can have up to two academic advisors in Türkiye.
  • A research proposal must follow the format set by TÜBİTAK.
  • Applicants must prove proficiency in English. If their education was not in English, they must provide test results or a letter certifying their English knowledge.
  • Applicants cannot take up other assignments during the TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship.
  • They must cover expenses for any accompanying family members.
  • Applicants cannot have previously received a fellowship under this TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship.
  • They must return to their home country after completing the fellowship.
  • Candidates can apply for only one program per calendar year within the TWAS and OWSD portfolio. They cannot visit another institution under the TWAS Visiting Professor programs in the same year.
